In Ungarn – Nachbarland Österreichs und EU-Mitglied – ist die Demokratie einmal mehr in Gefahr: Fidesz-Chef Viktor Orban will nach Medienknebelung und Besetzung von SpItzenposten mit mehr als umstrittenen Personen jetzt auch noch das Parlament auszuschalten. Das umstrittene Anit-Demokratie-Paket wird just zur Weihnachtszeit verabschiedet. Trotzdem gibt es am 23.12. eine Demo vor dem Parlament, zu dem ua unsere Schwesterpartei bei den Europäischen Grünen, LMP, aufruft. Wenn die eine oder der andere von Euch Zeit und Lust für einen vorweihnachtlichen Budapest-Besuch hat: Die ungarischen Grünen würden sich über die Teilnahme anderer europäischer Grünparteien bei freuen!

Darüber hinaus haben die Europäischen Grünen ua auf Initiative der Grünen Europaparlamentarierin Ulrike Lunacek einen Offenen Brief an Kommissionspräsident Barroso geschrieben, mit der Aufforderung dass die Kommission als Hüterin der Verträge endlich handeln möge. Das Jännerplenum des EP soll die Situation in Ungarn eine debattieren und eine Resolution verabschieden:

An Era is Over: Time for New Resistance!
The party Politics Can Be Different (LMP) regards the autumn session of the Hungarian Parliament to be the last one of the democratic period in the country’s history for the time being — therefore the party declared to start a “New Resistance”.
To mark the beginning of the New Resistance, the opposition party called for a rally in front of the Parliament building on 23rd December — said LMP spokesperson Bernadett Szél at a press conference in Budapest. LMP considers a dictatorship to be emerging in the country, she added. This day will be a turning point, when the governing Fidesz majority plans to adopt a number of scandalous laws that will put the last nail into the coffin of democracy, Szél explained.
The opposition party’s spokesperson attacked the new electoral code, the new law on higher education, the enshrining of tax laws in so-called cardinal laws that require a 2/3 majority to be changed, the abolishment of the National Bank’s independence, and the changes to the Parliament’s house rules that would de facto enable the government to pass laws — if it wants, within 24 hours — without an actual debate in Parliament. Gergely Karácsony, deputy chair of LMP has declared during the press conference: “The essence of democracy is that there is always an alternative — with the changes to the house rules, Fidesz wants to prevent that alternative being expressed.”
The opposition politician underlined that the type of parliamentary politics that LMP has believed in so far has lost its sense und these conditions — therefore the party will change it’s approach to politics. Therefore, LMP calls citizens to a manifestation in front of the parliament to protest against the destruction of democracy and the rule of law. Karácsony confirmed that LMP will still participate in voting in the Parliament.
